Van’s Colorado places 7th; New Summerfield takes third

ROUND ROCK — Van’s Isaiah Colorado finished in the top 10 of the UIL Class 4A State Cross Country Meet on Friday at Old Settlers Park.

In Class 2A boys, New Summerfield captured the bronze team medal.

Colorado ran to a time of 15 minutes and 50.30 seconds to place seventh overall. The clocking was a personal record for Colorado. It was the third state meet for the senior from Van. Colorado placed 38th at the state meet as a sophomore and 35th as a junior with a time of 16:43.4.

Lathan Lewter of Canyon won the meet at 15:25.00, followed by Armando Morales of La Feria (15.35.30). Placing third was Canyon’s Ryan Fernandez (15:42.90).

In the team competition, Canyon won with 48 points, followed by Salado (103) and La Feria (146). Pine Tree placed fourth at 172.



Pine Tree team members included: 30, Trey Scroggins, 16:38.70; 32, Isaiah Martinez, 16:39.80; 46, Adam Venegas, 16:49.20; 68, Jaiden Tejada Clark, 17:10.60; and 74, Christopher Ahumada, 17:14.20.

Area runners in the top 100 were: 22, Xander Owen, Pittsburg, 16:20.60; 26, Kevin Velazquez, Canton, 16:34.50; 40, Brayden Vining, Bullard, 16:46.50; 60, Dax Allen, Lindale, 16:50.809; 61, Miler Stewart, Hudson, 17:01.50; 76, Caden Cummings, Bullard, 17:16.60; and 86, Tanner Baxter, Gilmer, 17:24.90.

CLASS 6A GIRLS

Tyler Legacy’s Maddry East took part in her second consecutive state meet.

East, a sophomore, finished No. 92 with a clocking of 19:47.20.

Macy Wingard of Denton Braswell captured first place with a time of 17:07.90, followed by Lily Fawcett of Cypress Bridgeland (17:32.10) and Maya Easterwood of Coppell (17:36.80).

Flower Mound won the team title with 47 points, followed by Cypress Bridgeland (81) and Katy (139).

The 5A, 3A and 1A meets are scheduled for Saturday.

CLASS 4A GIRLS

Henderson’s Giselle Alejandro, Lindale’s Abigail Kelley and Kilgore’s Ruby Almanza led the way for East Texans in the 4A girls race.

Alejandro, a senior, finished 10th in a clocking of 11:43.10.

Kelley, a junior, placed 21st at 12:05.00, with senior Almanza finished one spot behind in 22nd (12:05.70).

Canyon won the team championship with 45 points, followed by Canyon Randall (74) and Salado (95). Hudson was 13th (294), Pittsburg was 15th (419) and Wills Point placed 16th (449).

Addyson Bristow of Canyon captured first at 10:43.30. She was followed by Nayomi Granados of Canyon Randall (11:07.90) and Brooke French (11:12.50).

Other area competitors in the top 100: 37, Edith Martinez, Sulphur Springs, 12:16.40; 48, Trista Etheridge, Mabank, 12:24.0; 49, Kalie Cummings, Bullard, 12:24.40; 70, Mackenzie Robinson, Pine Tree, 12:43.00; 84, Jenna Ivey, Hudson, 12:51.60; 86, Zerena Martinez, Wills Point, 12:53.30; 92, Araceli Moreno, Pittsburg, 12:57.60; and 99, Kairi Bruck, Hudson, 13:04.20.

CLASS 2A GIRLS

Cara Sims of Elysian Fields captured the girls 2A title with a clocking of 11:34.60.

Placing second was Isabella Jaimie of Farwell (11:50.90) and Alexis Wade, also of Farwell, took third (11:56.60).

Area teams placing were Douglass (7th, 236 points) and Hawkins (8th, 243) and Union Grove (16th, 346).

Union Grove’s Landry Harris was also in the top 20, placing 16th (12:25.20). Joining Harris on the UG team were 87, Danica Vestal, 13:38.8; 122, Rachel Potter, 14:23.1; 142, Jill Taylor, 14:59.8; 144, Olivia Dabreu, 15:12.9; 149, Emma Wadle, 15:39.9; and 151, Kaydence Frey, 16:07.8.

Douglass team members include: 54, Anahi Mayes, 13:13.40; 57, Leah Roach, 13:15.7; 81, Tessa Reeves, 13:13.9; 97, Kinley Fuchs, 13:47.4; 113, Gracie Hise, 14:09.3; 137, Izabella Ball, 14:53.2; and 139, Halle Null, 14:54.6.

Members of the Hawkins team include: 30, Kyle Adams, 12:50.30; 78, Amira Meeks, 13:29.5; 84, Katie Barber, 13:32.7; 101, Katilyn Shelton, 13:50.5; 112, Jentri Evans, 14:08.3; 129, Ainsley Conner, 14:36.2; and 138, Addyson Turrentine, 14:53.6.

Other East Texans in the top 100 were: 32, Alexa Arzate, Harts Bluff, 12:51.80; 39, Evee Bragg, New Summerfield, 13:00.20; 41, Reyli Rubio, Fruitvale, 13:02.40; 42, Jannette Bautista, Groveton, 13:02.80.

CLASS 2A BOYS

New Summerfield placed third with 107 points. Plains was first at 52 points and runner-up was Windthrost (98).

Tenaha placed fourth (141).

New Summerfield team members include: 12, Andres Ornelas, 17:08.4; 21, Raul Munoz, 17:19.3; 47, Brayden Lueckemeyer, 17:55.9; 50, Axel Hernandez, 18:00.9; 55, Jovanny Hernandez, 18:03.9; 99, Alessandro Garcia, 19:13.7; and 146, Daniel Uribe, 23.42.9.

Marco Cunningham of Waco Meyer won the meet at 16:12.70, followed by Michael Flores of Itasco (16:39.80) and Sawyer Hamilton of Plains (16:42.70).

CLASS 6A BOYS

Southlake Carroll won the team title with 42 points, followed by Austin Vandegrift (53) and Cypress Bridgeland (84).

Southlake Carroll’s Caden Leonard won the individual title (14:50.10). He was followed by Benjamin Montgomery of Bridgeland (15:01.80) and Aleksandr Acuna of Denton Braswell (15:03.80).
