Tyler author Cathy Mounce recently a children’s book, ‘Pancake, the Texas Cat,’ that has been 30 years in the making. The tale, written and illustrated by Mounce, follows herbeloved pet from childhood.
“Pancake was a special gift to me many years ago and she quickly became part of the family,” she said.
‘Pancake the Texas Cat’ is a true story about a small gray kitten with plenty of Western style and “cattitude.” She loves to wear her red bandana as she proudly struts through life, thankful to be born in Texas. But like any good story, it has a moral: “Wherever you are, no matter what, just be yourself. After all, you are the best you that anyone can be. MEOW!”
This 36-page paperback is Mounce’s debut and is intended for children ages 2 to 10. The book is available on Amazon for $15.95 or Kindle e-Book for $9.99 (www.amazon.com/Pancake-Texas-Cathy-Harbour-Mounce/dp/B0DM4GHK4S).
“I enjoyed writing this rhyming tale,” Mounce said. “Each one of us, even a small cat, has the capability to make a difference in others. Thank you, Pancake, for adding joy to my life.”
As a native Texan, Mounce has always loved the wild beauty and history-laden stories of the Lone Star State. A child of two Texas schoolteachers, Mounce was encouraged to develop her creativity, from writing short stories, songs, poems to even a screenplay.
For a time, Mounce worked at a small North Texas newspaper, where she enjoyed writing about the people whose lives are the heart of each community. Photography, illustration, and other artistic endeavors also have provided ways for her to add beauty to her life and others.
Mounce is a graduate of Denton High School, as well as the University of Texas in Austin. She has lived in Tyler for eight years. She will be available for a book signing on Dec. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the new Rose City Art Gallery, located on 328 S. College Avenue in Tyler.
