Dallas SOC rolls past Marshall, 35-7

The first four Golden Bears drives resulted in 220 yards and four touchdowns as Dallas South Oak Cliff cruised to a 35-7 win over the Marshall Mavericks on Friday in a Class 5A Division II regional football playoff game at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

SOC (11-2) advances to meet Port Neches-Groves (12-1), a 31-28 winner over previously unbeaten Texas High, next week in quarterfinals play. The Golden Bears lost to PNG in the state championship last year, 20-17.

Marshall concludes its season at 10-3.

SOC’s Mikail Trotter rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, while Levon Morton added two rushing TDs.

The Golden Bears took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter as Trotter scored from the 24 at 8:49 and Morton added a 4-yard dash at 4:19. Ceasar Olvera kicked both extra points.



South Oak Cliff made it 20-0 on a 3-yard run at 2:22 of the second. The extra point attempt failed.

With 46 seconds left before halftime, Morton found the end zone from eight yards. Trotter then passed to Torrin Teague for two points and a 28-0 advantage.

With Marshall trying to score, Kendrick Carter picked off a pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for a TD. Olvera made the PAT for a 35-0 with 1:47 of the third quarter.

Marshall scored with 7:19 of the fourth quarter as Isaiah Bush scored from the 1-yard run. Jesus Grimaldo made the extra point for the final score of 35-7.

Semaj Gatson led Mashall with 13 carries for 60 yards, while quarterback Alton Henderson hit on 5 of 13 for 70 yards with two interceptions. 

Judson Illingworth led the Mavs with three catches for 47 yards.
