A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing an East Texas veteran during a February 2023 robbery. 

Herbert Simpson, 56, who was one of three accused of capital murder in the 2023 shooting death of Warren Rogers, 61, of Tyler, was convicted of capital murder following almost two hours of jury deliberations. 

Following the jury’s verdict, the jurors were dismissed and Judge Debby Gunter sentenced him to life in prison without parole.
