Boys Basketball Notebook: Rains’ Jacob Schrubb takes weekly honor

Rains senior Jacob Schrubb has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Dec. 9-14.

Schrubb averaged 22.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game in five games at the Gladiator Tournament in Italy.

In a 97-38 win over Chico, Schrubb posted a triple-double with 47 points, 11 rebounds, 11 steals, two blocks and six assists, and he was a perfect 6 of 6 from 3-point range.

In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

Tyler Legacy’s Ja’Corian Oes averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in wins over Hudson and state-ranked Lake Highlands. Jayden Jones averaged 17.0 points per game. Zyere Ceasar averaged 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.



Tyler High’s Jaishua Brown averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. Brown had 20 points, nine rebounds, five steals and five blocks against Jacksonville, and he had 21 points, 12 rebounds and three assists against Lufkin.

Brownboro’s Mann Scott averaged 25.4 points in five games. He had 36 points against Australia Showtime and is averaging 24.6 points per game for the season.

Bishop Gorman’s Jaylon Miles averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals, and he shot 50 percent from the field (18 of 36) in wins against East Texas Home School and King’s Academy.

Grace Community’s Peyton Kelly averaged 13.8 points and 7.9 rebounds, and he took seven charges as the Cougars went 4-1 and placed third in the Frankston Tournament. Kelly scored 26 points against Tarkington. Caden Swaim averaged 14.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals, and he had 24 points against Winona. Daniel Shankle averaged 13.6 points, 6.4 assists and 3.9 steals, and he had 31 points against Woden. Doak Porter averaged 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals, and he had 22 points against East Chambers.

LaPoynor’s Zade Howard had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 74-64 win over Palestine.

Tyler HEAT’s Coen Starr averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds and earned All-Tournament honors at the Martin’s Mill Bryan Mewbourn Tournament. Eli Anderson averaged 11.5 points per game in the tournament, and he averaged 7.3 assists per game in the first three games of the tournament.

East Texas boys teams ranked in the TexasHoops/GASO rankings are Lufkin No. 15 in 5A; Chapel Hill No. 13 and Paris No. 19 in 4A; Palestine Westwood No. 4, Tatum No. 5 and Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill No. 8 in 3A; Martin’s Mill No. 2, Shelbyville No. 5 and Hawkins No. 7 in 2A; Brookeland No. 4, Groveton Centerville No. 7 and Wells No. 8 in 1A; and Brook Hill No. 22 and Bishop Gorman No. 25 in the private school rankings.
