Anna Sue Waggoner
DALLAS — Anna Sue “Sue” Phillips Waggoner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on May 21, 1933, in Dardanelle, Arkansas, to Myrtle and Stanton Phillips.
Sue graduated from Searcy High School in Searcy, Arkansas, and later attended Ouachita Baptist University, where she met the love of her life, Roger Waggoner. They were married for 72 years, and their bond was one of deep love and devotion. Together, they lived in the Chicago suburb of Wheaton, Illinois, for over 30 years before retiring to Emerald Bay on Lake Palestine in Bullard, Texas. Throughout their life, Sue and Roger shared a passion for travel, exploring the world together.
Sue accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and walked faithfully with Him her entire life. She loved and was active in the churches she and Roger attended, most recently Emerald Bay Community Church. One of the treasured blessings in her life was Bible Study Fellowship, where she served in various roles of leadership for over 30 years. She cherished the relationships she formed there as well as the opportunity to grow in her faith alongside others.
Sue’s greatest loves were God, her husband, and her children. Her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6, was a guiding light throughout her life: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.”
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Stanton Phillips and her husband, Roger. She leaves behind her loving children, daughter Alice Fant (Brian) and son Keith Waggoner (Kendall), both of Dallas. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Fant (Kristen) of Waco, Preston Fant (Kaylee) of Oklahoma City, Wilson Waggoner (Kendall) of Dallas, and Anna Gray (Will) of Waco as well as five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Sue is also survived by her sister Patsy Bone and her nephew Mark Bone both of Little Rock, Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held to honor her life and faith on March 8, 2025 at 1 PM at Emerald Bay Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emerald Bay Community Church or Bible Study Fellowship.
Sue will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
