Rondal Lynn Jones
TYLER — Rondal Jones, 89, was called home on December 9, 2024.
He retired from the Department of Public Safety after 21 years plus of service. He continued to be a peace officer, first with the Sherriff’s Office and then with the U.S Marshall’s Office. Rondal was a 32nd degree Mason.
He was born in Jacksonville, Texas to Sammy and Neda Jones.
He graduated from Jacksonville High School and briefly attended Lon Morris.
Rondal was accepted into the School of Highway Patrol and graduated in 1957.
If you knew Rondal, you heard many of his stories of the various adventures he went on during his career. He spent time most of his career in Panola and later in Smith County. Rondal made a transition from law enforcement to sales.
Over the years he made many friends in each professional he embarked upon.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons.
He is preceded by death by his younger brother, Jerry, his sister Peggy, and his parents.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 21st at 11 am at the First Christian Church of Tyler with Dr. Chris Pulliam officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his lifelong companion of 49 years, Nancy Townes; her daughter Laurie Townes; grandchildren Aaron Russel, and wife Vicky, Matthew Russell, Peyton Lawerence, and wife Indigo and Mackenzie Lawerence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NRA or to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
