Tyler’s Kalyse Buffin’s scores her 2,000th career point in win

For the second consecutive week, there was a milestone moment at the Lions Den.
Kalyse Buffin, Tyler High’s standout senior guard, registered her 2,000th career point in the Lady Lions’ 62-38 win over Smith County rival Whitehouse on Tuesday night. Last week, it was THS Coach Bobby Reynolds’ 200th career victory.

“I am very grateful I was able (to set the record) in front of a home crowd,” Buffin said. “Tyler and the community mean so much to me. I’m blessed to be able to play basketball.”
She thanked her coaches and teammates in her journey to 2,000 points.
Entering the contest, Buffin needed 15 points to reach the magic mark. She scored 13 points in the first quarter, topped off by a four-point play.
Then with 6:25 on the clock in the second quarter, her bucket hit 2,000 points. For the game, Buffin scored 26 points and now has 2011 points. She hit two 3-pointers and was 6 of 7 from the free throw line.
Buffin had six rebounds, seven steals and a block.
Other contributors for Tyler were: LaTajia Hambrick (15 points, 2 3-pointers, 7 steals, 3 rebounds), Bralyah Miller (13 points, 1 3-pointer, 7 steals, 4 rebounds, 1 block), Jer’Miya Rice (4 points, 1 3-pointer, 1 rebound), Jaz Moore (2 points), Mairary Olivarez (2 points, 1 block), Ariel Johnson (4 rebounds), Ma’Kayla Taylor (4 rebounds, 2 steals), Bra’Shia Miller (3 steals, 2 rebonds), Ameri Goss (2 rebounds) and Amori Gee (1 rebound).

Kiana Thornton and Lucy Smith led Whitehouse with 10 points each.
Smith had eight rebounds and a block with seven boards and a steal from Thornton, who also drew a charge and hit two 3-pointers.
Others leading the LadyCats were: Tayla Morris (8 points, 1 3-pointer, 5 rebounds, 1 steal), Taylor Stewart (7 points, 1 3-pointer, 1 rebound, 1 steal), Natalie Brown (2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal) and Hailey Morrison (1 point, 3 steals).
The victory moves the Lady Lions to 15-4 on the season and 6-0 in District 10-5A. Whitehouse falls to 7-7 and 1-4.
The LadyCats return to play on Friday, playing Hallsville at C.L. Nix Wildcat Arena in Whitehouse. Tipoff is set for 6:15 p.m.
The Lady Lions hit the road on Friday, traveling to Nacogdoches to meet the Lady Dragons in a 6:15 p.m. start.
