The City of Tyler Fire Department and Emergency Management officials are monitoring the weather conditions in the Tyler area for Monday and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service of Shreveport forecast a chance of snow showers on Monday night into Tuesday, with snow accumulations up to 3 inches. The possibility of snow is accompanied by below-freezing temperatures.

Smith County and surrounding counties are under a hard freeze warning until 9 a.m. Monday.

In a weather briefing on Sunday, Warning Coordination Meteorologist Chris Nuttall said they have a high (greater than 90%) confidence of cold temperatures continuing through the middle of the upcoming work week.

There is a high (greater 80%) confidence that accumulating snowfall will occur primarily south of Interstate 20, with the greater amounts being from Deep East Texas eastward into Central Louisiana and points south.

There is a medium (70%) confidence that the greatest snowfall accumulations should be between 1 and 3 inches.

The NWS notes that all of East Texas will see wind chills through Wednesday, with temps dropping into the teens and low 20s tonight. Monday’s highs are expected to be around 40 degrees across the region, dipping down into the low 20s overnight into Tuesday.

Tuesday’s high temps will be in the 30s, dipping back into the teens overnight and then around 40 degrees on Wednesday afternoon.

The city says its emergency service capabilities are at full strength. Fire, Police, Streets and Tyler Water Utilities crews are prepared for the weather and have placed personnel on standby if needed and will respond as appropriate.

If you have an emergency, call 911, stay on the line and don’t hang up until your call is answered. Answer all questions and follow instructions.

The Tyler Police Department’s non-emergency line (903) 531-1000 should be used for all other calls and notifications, including traffic signal issues and downed power lines.
