Boys Basketball Roundup: Austin Brentwood edges Brook Hill

AUSTIN — In a matchup of two of the top five teams in the state, No. 4 Austin Brentwood edged No. 5 Brook Hill, 60-52, on Monday in a TAPPS 5A District 2 basketball game.
The Bears improved to 20-8 overall and 4-0 in district. The Guard fell to 22-4 and 3-1.
Rod Rudzinskas led Brook Hill with 15 points, followed by Beck Langemeier (12), Majus Afansjev (9), Jio Orrico (7), Luke McNeel (7) and Zac Ryle (2).
Three-pointers were from Rudzinskas, Afanasjev, Langemeier and McNeel.
Marcus Zelee led Brentwood with 21 points, followed by Blake Petty (16), Jake Elvin (8), Zach Czerlinsky (7) and Bryant Herring (7).
Three-pointers were by Elvin (2), Petty (2), Zelee (1) and Czerlinsky (1).
Brook Hill visits Austin Regents on Friday.
BROWNSBORO 57, MABANK 51
BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bears broke open a tight game in the fourth quarter to register a 57-51 win over Mabank on Friday in a District 15-4A basketball game.
Brownsboro led the Panthers 36-35 entering the fourth period.
The Bears moved to 11-13 overall and 2-4 in district, while Mabank dropped to 13-9 and 3-3.
Keaton Delaney led Brownsboro with 20 points with Mann Scott adding 19.
Also scoring for the Bears were Gabe Hendricks (9), Danton Wright (3), Amry Parmer (2), Lane Shaw (2) and Peyton Brockway (2).
Scott had two 3-pointers with one each from Wright and Hendricks.
Luke Carter led Mabank with 23 points, including three 3-pointers. Others scoring for the Panthers were Kaden Penland (9, 1 3-pointer), Ty Perkins (8), Carter Sims (6), Daylon Gibbs (3) and Rev Neighbors (2).
Mabank won both the JV (40-33) and Frosh (46-8) games.
CHAPEL HILL 87, CARTHAGE 34
NEW CHAPEL HILL — Isiah Mayfield and Anthony Smith had double doubles to lead the Chapel Hill Bulldogs to an 87-34 win over Carthage on Friday in a District 16-4A basketball game.
The Bulldogs improve to 22-5 overall and 6-1 in district.
Mayfield had 22 points and 10 rebounds (along with a block) adn Smith had 16 points and 17 rebounds (along with 3 blocks.
Others scoring for CH were Jorden Ford (15 points, 3 3-pointers), Trevor Brooks (11 points, 1 3-pointer), Malik Gee (9 points, 1 3-pointer), Jordyn Bradshaw (5 points), Ryder Steele (4 points), Jeremy Harper (3 points) and Braylon Allen (2 points).
PINE TREE 75, HENDERSON 33
HENDERSON — Sophomore Darron Pair paced Pine Tree with 11 points, seven assists and four steals, and the Pirates moved to 5-2 in District 16-4A (15-10 overall) with a 75-33 win over the Henderson Lions.
Eli Murray added 11 points and Trey Nafrady chipped in with 10 points, four steals and four rebounds.
TROUP 62, SABINE 40
LIBERTY CITY — The Troup Tigers opened up a 20-10 lead after one quarter on the way to a 62-40 District 16-3A win over the Sabine Cardinals.
Caden Graves had 21 points to lead the way for Troup. Braxton Barton had nine, Bryce McElroy eight, Carter Graves and Keenan Foster six apiece, Carson Davenport five, Michael Burns three and Tre Anderson and Brett Wells two each.
Hudson McNatt scored 25 points and Colt Sparks had 11 in the loss for Sabine.
TATUM 100,
WHITE OAK 33
WHITE OAK — The Tatum Eagles raced out to a 26-9 lead after one quarter and led 55-14 at halftime on the way to a 100-33 District 16-3A win over the White Oak Roughnecks.
Jordan Chambers scored 29 points and JaCorie Bradley was close behind with 28 for Tatum. Cayden Tatum and Luke Sigler added 10 points apiece for the Eagles. Quincy Davis scored eight, Cooper Whiteus seven, Nalayus Boyd six and Carlos Hernandez two.
Scotty Breitenberg had 10 points in the loss for White Oak. Brayden Bratcher added eight, Andrew Rector five, Mac Smith four, Campbell Sutton three, Tysen McClain two and Keenan Jalomo one.
BECKVILLE 44, GARY 39
BECKVILLE — In District 23-2A action, Braxton Bullock led a balanced scoring attack for the Bearcats as Beckville earned a 44-39 win over the Gary Bobcats.
Jorden Prince finished with 12 points, J.T. Smith 11, Keynon Lusk four and Grayson Hicks and Rudy Watts one apiece for the Bearcats, who led 11-9 after one quarter and 19-16 at the half before using a 16-6 run in the third to get a little separation on the Bobcats.
CENTER 69,
PALESTINE 47
PALESTINE — Tim Johnson tossed in 22 points, three other Roughriders scored in double figures and Center rolled to a 69-47 win over the Palestine Wildcats.
Caleb Mosley had 12 points, Travis Belin 11 and Jimmarion Smith 10 for Center. Belin and Smith both pulled down 12 rebounds. Johnson added four rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Belin handed out four assists. Mosley also came up with three steals.
ROCKWALL 55, LONGVIEW 44
LONGVIEW — Longview boys basketball returned to game action after a six-day break to host Rockwall at Lobo Coliseum on Friday night, but it couldn’t hang on to a five-point lead in the third quarter and were eventually outmatched in the fourth period of a 55-44 loss.
The Lobos dropped their 2024-2025 season record to 14-9 and District 10-6A record to 2-4.
The Yellowjackets, meanwhile, improved their year mark to 18-7 and district mark to 5-1.
