The Bishop T.K. Gorman soccer teams kicked off their home district play on Monday night, facing the Dallas Christian Chargers under frigid weather conditions. Despite the chill, both teams showcased determination and competitive spirit in front of their home crowd.
The Lady Crusaders opened the evening with a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle. Senior Andrea Munoz led the team with an impressive three goals, while Junior Christina Frank added two to the tally. Despite their valiant effort, the Lady Chargers ultimately pulled away in the second half, securing a 10-5 victory.
The boys’ team took the field next, delivering a strong performance. Sophomore Ricky Pineda was the standout of the night, scoring all three goals for the Crusaders. Senior Manuel Lozano and freshman Augustine Frank provided key assists to bolster the team’s attack.
On the defensive side, seniors Pearson West and Manuel Lozano, junior Daniel Osifeso, and sophomore Roberto Lozano made critical contributions with several blocks and steals. The collective effort of the Crusaders, including contributions from other teammates, secured the 3-2 victory. Goalkeeper KaMauri Alford also shined, allowing only two goals on eight shots.
LONGVIEW 2, LUFKIN 0
Longview scored twice in the second half, and Leo Enriguez worked the clean sheet in goal for the Lobos in a 2-0 win over Lufkin.
Beto Campos scored the first Lobo goal off an assist from Aaron Juarez. With seven minutes left, Alijah Gonzales found Miguel Hernandez inside the box to complete the scoring.
Michael Smith was the defensive standout for the Lobos, who will host Jacksonville at noon on Saturday.
The Lobo JV earned a 2-0 win on Wednesday.
SABINE GOES 4-0
LIBERTY CITY — The Sabine Cardinals went 4-0 over the weekend at the third annual Sabine Showcase Tournament.
The Cardinals racked up 25 goals and allowed two in wins over Tyler HEAT (8-1), Grand Saline (7-0), Kemp (8-1) and Mineola (3-0).
Francisco Perez finished the showcase with 11 goals for the Cardinals. Jesus Duran had seven goals and two assists, Alec Gonzalez four goals and three assists, Yael Acosta two goals and five assists, Randy Rodriguez one goal, Juan Gonzalez two assists and Juan Ortega, Jared Sifuentes and josh Martinez an assist apiece.
