The Tyler Legacy's student council decorated the doors on campus for this year's homecoming theme.

It was a groovy day at Tyler Legacy High School on Wednesday as students and staff dressed up disco-style as part of their homecoming week festivities.

“The students really embraced the disco,” said Angela Cherbonnier, Tyler Legacy’s media technology specialist. “We have a lot of students in their bell bottoms today, their shirts… a lot of sequins, disco ball earrings and stuff.”

The students are keeping spirits high as the Red Raiders prepare to face off Texas High School this Friday at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

“It is our annual homecoming week so all week we’ve been gearing up,” Chernonnier said. “The big dance is Saturday… this year’s theme is Disco Hoco.”

On Monday, students were encouraged to dress up in anything that was patriotic, representing the U.S.A.; Tuesday the students wore jerseys of their favorite teams; Wednesday was Disco Day; Thursday is Business Day and Friday is Color Wars, where freshman and sophomores will wear red and juniors and seniors will wear white.

“It’s been really fun seeing the kids do disco as they interpret it,” Cherbonnier said.

Tyler Legacy’s student council is in charge of picking out the themes each year.

“We really have probably the most amazing student council I’ve ever experienced in my education career here,” Cherbonnier said. “They completely come up with the themes, they put the tickets on sale and come up with all the graphics and decorations.”

The council decorates their teachers’ doors, as well as some of the staff office doors.

“The student council does a great job really ramping up the school spirit this week,” Cherbonnier said. “Everyone is excited and looking forward to the homecoming game Friday and the dance on Saturday. Go, Red Raiders!”
