High Five: Red Raiders win 5th straight district title; Madalyn Petty, Tucker Martine earn top honors

Sophomore Tucker Martine and freshman Madalyn Petty earned “Swimmer of the Meet” awards, powering the Tyler Legacy swim teams in the District 10-6A Swimming & Diving Meet on Jan. 25 at Rockwall ISD Aquatic Center in Rockwall.

The Red Raiders won the district meet for the fifth consecutive year while the Lady Raiders finished second.



The top six finishers in district advance to the Class 6A Region III Meet, slated for Rockwall on Feb. 7-8.

The top two finishers in each event at regionals and the top three finishers for diving will advance to the UIL State Championship, scheduled for Feb. 21-22 at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.

RED RAIDERS

Martine captured gold in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle. He also helped the 400 free relay to first place. Martine was joined by junior Jack Clark, senior Josh Meadows and junior Alex Zheng. The two golds and the silver lifted Martine to the “Swimmer of the Meet.”

Meadows also won first place in the 100 backstroke and silver in the 100 fly.

Meadows was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay. Joining Meadows on the relay were Zheng, sophomore Zach Poulin and senior Cohen Sacks.

Sophomore Fischer Dunnihoo claimed the silver in the 500 freestyle. Taking a bronze right behind Dunnihoo was freshman Carter Martine.

Earning fourth-place finishes were: Carter Martine (50 freestyle); Zheng (100 breaststroke); and freshman Garrett Gipson (100 backstroke).

Fifth-place swimmers were: Clark (50 freestyle); and Poulin (100 fly).

Grabbing sixth-place finishes were: Zheng (200 individual medley); Clark (100 free); senior Sebastian Raney (100 backstroke); Sacks (200 free); and junior Aiden Torres (100 fly).

LADY RAIDERS

Petty won gold in the 200 and 500 meter feestyles to earn “Swimmer of the Meet.”

She was part of the first-place 200 free relay team which also included senior Ava Green, senior Ellie Lemmert and sophomore Ella Eckert.

Green also won gold in the 50 free and the 100 butterfly.

Eckert took first place in the 100 free and the 100 backstroke.

The 200 medley relay of junior Emily Heller, sophomore Courtney Reilly, freshman Ari Grijalva and sophomore Maddie Vaughn won silver.

Lemmert won the silver in the 50 free and 100 free.

Capturing a bronze was Heller in the 200 free.

Fourth-place finishers were Reilly (200 individual medley), Grijalva (100 butterfly) and Vaughn (200 free).

Taking fifth were Heller (500 free) and Reilly (100 breaststroke).
