Two East Texas girls basketball players were recognized as the Greater Texas Ford Dealers Female Athlete of the Month for the month of December for their respective classifications.
Brook Hill’s Indeya Williams earned the honor for private schools, while Hawkins’ Taetum Smith was the recipient in Class 2A.
Williams, a 5-11 junior, earned the honor by averaging 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the Lady Saints Christmas Classic. In the championship game, Williams had 25 points, 17 rebounds, four blocks and two steals to earn tournament MVP honors.
“It feels great,” Williams said. “It just means all my hard work is paying off.”
Smith, a senior, earned the honor by averaging 20.5 points, 5.8 steals and 6.0 assists per game in the Hawkins Holiday Hoops Tournament. Smith has scored a school-record 36 points in a game twice this season.
“I’m very excited I got the chance to become athlete of the month,” Smith said. “It means a lot to me, especially since this is my last year of playing high school basketball.”
The Ford Dealers award is now in its second year honoring outstanding female student-athletes throughout the Greater Texas market area for excellence on their field of play, in the classroom, and in the community.
Williams and Smith were joined on the December list by Odessa High School volleyball player Clarissa Rodriguez for Class 6A, Plainview High School basketball player Mady Williams for 5A, Lampasas High School basketball player Addison Borchardt for 4A, Brownfield High School cross country athlete Kate Hesse for Class 3A and McLean High School basketball player Kasidy Russell for Class A.
