HG Studio & Day Spa celebrates seven years in business this year. Owner Mar’Quita Erwin opened the salon in 2016 following the premature birth of her son so she could tend to his medical needs.

Mar’Quita Erwin has a lot to celebrate these days. In 2016 she opened HG Studio & Day Spa; this year she launched a new product line following product launches in 2020 and 2021.

Erwin started the business following the birth of her son who was born premature at just 24 weeks. The need to get him to Dallas for appointments promoted her to go into business for herself to accommodate his medical needs.

“I was tired of working a regular nine to five job. My son was born at 24 weeks and I needed a job that I would allow me to get my son to Dallas for therapy three days a week,” she said. “Starting my own business helped me become more convenient for my son and his needs.”

Erwin said it was important for her business to be rooted in her faith and also be culturally diverse.

“My business is unique because it’s a Christian-based multi-cultured salon spa. Based off of 1 Corinthians 11:15 — a woman’s hair is her glory’”, she said.

The salon offers silk presses and Brazilian blowouts with Erwin specializing in natural hair, treatments for hair loss, alopecia, keratin treatments, color, education classes, hair growth, precision cuts, ape ins, micro-links, and bonded weaves.

HG Studio & Day Spa also employees a Loctician, Esthetician, Nail Tech, and Barber.

Erwin said she loves to the see joy on the faces of her clients who felt there was no hope for their hair loss and other conditions.

“I am passionate because I love to see the reaction of my clients when the go from feeling like there is no hope to having hope after I’m done,” she said. “I love to teach them things they never knew about their hair.”

“I have clients fly in from all over the world to sit in my chair and they believe in my brand; my brand is my promise,” Erwin said. “My clients trust me and my work. The results are shown each time they sit in my chair.”

In 2020 Erwin established her own product line KitaTheHairMD Artistry LLC starting with hair growth oil KitaTheHairMD Hair Growth Stimulant. In 2021, she followed with an edge control line KitaTheHairMD Sleek Edges.

This year Erwin launched vegan hair product line KitaTheHairMD Professional Hair Care Line. The line includes with CBD Shampoos, conditioners, shine serums, shines sprays, heat protectants, and holding sprays – all sulfate free and paraben free.

Erwin said she hopes to continue serving East Texas and helping other through her work and products.

“It’s important for me to give back to the community and those in need through what I do,” she said. “I serve the homeless, churches, schools, beauty school graduate, families in need, and more.”

“I hope to continue doing that for many more years to come,” Erwin said.

Hours of operation are Tues. and Wed. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thurs. and Fri. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sat. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
