ON THIS DAY: 60 years ago, John F. Kennedy was assassinated

In this Nov. 22, 1963 file photo, President John F. Kennedy rides in a motorcade with his wife Jacqueline moments before he was shot and killed in Dallas. Texas Governor and Mrs. John Connally are also in the car. Video footage of Kennedy’s motorcade as it drove slowly through Dallas marked an entire generation and has been the source of plenty of conspiracy theories since.

DALLAS (AP) — On Nov. 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was shot to death during a motorcade in Dallas; Texas Gov. John B. Connally, riding in the same car as Kennedy, was seriously wounded. Suspected gunman Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as president.

Harry Wallace, of Tyler, never dreamed he’d see himself in one of the photos on display at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas.

But when Harry and his wife rounded a corner in the museum not long after it opened, he saw his younger self standing just a few feet away from President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy upon their arrival at Dallas Love Field Airport on Nov. 22, 1963.
