- Originally set for Thursday, the city will now hold its grand opening for Pollard Park at noon Dec. 9 due to rain in the forecast this week.
The city has rescheduled a park grand opening originally scheduled for Thursday.
The City of Tyler has rescheduled the grand opening celebration of Pollard Park to noon Dec. 9. Rain is forecast for Thursday afternoon, the city said.
The city hopes the community will come out to celebrate the new additions to the park. A design plan was approved for renovations in July 2022.
“We are excited about the grand opening. This has been one of those parks again that is heavily used by so many people in our community,” said Leanne Robinette, Parks and Recreation director. “We are hoping that everyone comes out for the grand opening.”
City of Tyler Mayor Don Warren and council members will make opening remarks, and several food trucks will be on-site for visitors.
There was an influx of people using the park system during the pandemic, Robinette said.
“I think they started to fall in love with our park system, and so I think it’s really important for us to put money back into those parks that these people, our citizens, have fallen in love with and to keep them safe and updated and up to the standards that our citizens deserve,” she said.
Renovations to the 9.17-acre neighborhood park include eight new pickleball courts, added connectivity with trails and sidewalks, ADA-accessible playground equipment, a dog run and more.
In April 2022, the city held a public meeting to hear what residents wanted and needed at Pollard Park. That input has helped influence ideas for the park’s updates, according to the city.
“We just hope everyone comes out and supports the grand opening and gets to see all of the renovations we’ve done,” she said.
The renovations are part of ongoing work to update all of the parks in the city system.
Pollard Park is located at 710 E. Amherst Dr. in Tyler.
