From Staff Reports
U.S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran will be unopposed in his bid for reelection and will serve a second term representing Congressional District 1.
No other candidates filed to run in the March primaries.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve East Texans in Washington, DC, for another term,” Moran, R-Tyler, said in a statement. “Even though I don’t have an opponent, this is no time to rest. I will continue traveling across the district, hearing from voters, and transparently communicating about the work we are doing on their behalf in D.C.”
In his first term in office, Moran focused on issues he said are important to East Texans, including strengthening border security, supporting law enforcement, constraining spending, and rolling back the overreach of the federal government and the liberal policies of the Biden Administration, according to a statement from his campaign.
He has also been vocal in his support for Israel, using his committee positions on Foreign Affairs and Education and Workforce to condemn antisemitism evident in organizations ranging from the United Nations to college campuses.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished in our first year in office,” Moran said. “Since I am running uncontested, I look forward to another term in Congress delivering strong, conservative results for my friends and neighbors and boldly speaking on behalf of hundreds of East Texans as we work together to change the course of this great Republic.”
The First District of Texas comprises roughly 776,000 East Texans across 17 counties, including Smith County. The district stretches from Texarkana south to San Augustine and encompasses almost all areas between the Texas-Louisiana border and the Western edge of Smith County. Its largest cities include Tyler, Longview, Texarkana, Marshall and Mt. Pleasant.
Before being elected to Congress, Moran served as the Smith County Judge, a Tyler City Council member and as Mayor Pro Tem of Tyler.
