While high school football players across the country were signing their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, two transfers with East Texas ties announced where they would transfer.
Former Whitehouse High School standout Jermod McCoy announced that he will play at Tennessee, while former Tyler Junior College/Paris High School standout Kobe Savage announced that he will play at Oregon.
McCoy was a three-sport star at Whitehouse. Along with his football accolades, he won state gold medals in both long jump and triple jump in track and field and was the starting center fielder for the regional semifinalist Whitehouse baseball team.
Oregon State and Tulane were his main offers coming out of high school and after originally committing to Tulane, McCoy eventually landed in Corvallis, Oregon, to play for Oregon State.
McCoy played in every game as a true freshman for the Beavers, recording 31 tackles, two interceptions, seven pass breakups and a forced fumble. Oregon State has an 8-4 record this season.
Immediately when McCoy announced he was entering the Transfer Portal, offers started to roll in from Oregon, Washington, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Colorado, USC and more.
McCoy ranks as a four-star transfer, the No. 78 player and No. 7 cornerback in the transfer portal according to the 247sports transfer rankings.
McCoy joins a Tennessee program that also went 8-4 this season.
For Savage, he played two years at Kansas State following his time at TJC.
In 2022 at Kansas State, Savage started 10 games at strong safety before suffering an injury. He tied for fourth on the Wildcats with 58 tackles and earned All-Big 12 honors. He also had three interceptions, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. This season, Savage had three interceptions to go along with 57 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Kansas State went 8-4 this season.
Savage now joins an Oregon program that is 11-2 this season and will enter the Big Ten next season.
