Crusaders, Tyler HEAT girls win Brookshire’s Classic

- The Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs placed runner-up in the FRESH by Brookshire’s Basketball Classic on Saturday at All Saints Epsicopal School.
The Bishop Gorman Crusaders and the Tyler HEAT girls captured championships on Saturday in the FRESH by Brookshire’s Basketball Classic in Tyler.
All Saints Episcopal School hosted the annual tournament, a three-day event, at Brookshire Gym.
GIRLS
In championship game, the Tyler HEAT scored a 31-25 win over the Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs.
The HEAT trailed 15-14 at halftime, but rallied in the second half for the victory.
Tyler HEAT scorers were Madison McKinnon (11), Savannah Fuller (9), Emma Kirksey (6), Lexi Fuller (4) and Riley Bergren (1).
McKinnon had three 3-pointers and Savannah Fuller hit one 3-pointer.
Scoring for Chapel Hill were Kaiden Kelly (7), Aryssa Cooper (6), Carneecia Johnson (4), Ayana McGill (3), Kiyah Miner (2), Ra’Niyah Suell (2) and R’Nyah Tomlinson (1).
On Friday, Tyler HEAT scored a 55-28 victory over Frisco Legacy Christian.
Lexi Fuller had a game-high 27 points for the HEAT. She had five 3-pointers.
Others scoring for the squad were Savannah Fuller (8), McKinnon (8), Kirksey (4), Gaby Saboia (4), Presley Ward (2) and Bergren (2).
McKinnon had one trey.
On Thursday, the Tyler squad downed The Woodlands John Cooper 47-17.
HEAT originated as Home Education Athletics of Tyler but has expanded to become Home Education Athletic Teams. The acronym has a secondary meaning of “He Enables All Things,” for HEAT’s purpose is to glorify God through providing home school families the opportunity to participate in competitive secondary level team sports.
The HEAT (12-3) are scheduled to travel to New London on Tuesday to meet West Rusk in a 6:15 p.m. contest.
Chapel Hill (8-6) is scheduled to host Hallsville at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
BOYS
For the second time this week, the Bishop Gorman Crusaders and the All Saints Trojans met on the hardwoods.
On Tuesday, the Crusaders claimed a 41-26 victory.
On Saturday, it was the two Loop 323 squads playing for the FRESH by Brookshire’s championship. It was closer this time, but the Cru still finished on top, 37-26.
Gorman’s Ryan Richbourg was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament and his cousin and teammate Joseph Richbourg earned all-tournament.
All Saints’ Caz Franks was named to the all-tournament team.
Scoring for the Crusaders were Joseph Richbourg (13), Ryan Richbourg (11), Anthony Todd (5), Beau Bender (3), EJ Coppock (3) and Evan Thibodeaux (2).
Bender, Ryan Richbourg and Coppock each had 3-pointers.
Trojans scoring were Franks (8), Jackson Hill (5), Manny Mizer (5), Sachit Basoor (5) and Emerson Hadnont (3).
Gorman (9-1) is scheduled to host Addison Trinity Christian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
All Saints (3-7) is slated to host New Summerfield at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
