Engine 146 from ESD’s Troup station was involved in a single roll-over crash off FM 13 outside of Troup, the ESD said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The two firefighters in the engine became unconscious when the vehicle rolled over. Once they regained consciousness, the firefighters called in the crash at 11:26 a.m. and began to free themselves from the engine, ESD said.
Both firefighters were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released to recover.
Smith County ESD 2’s Support Services Department came to the scene to help clear the area and retrieve equipment. Texas Department of Public Safety and other local law enforcement were on scene to offer additional help.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by DPS. The ESD said it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
“We thank you for your support and prayers,” ESD 2 said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
