Girls Basketball: Neches’ Sealy Hines scores 1,000th point

Neches’ Sealy Hines was honored for scoring her 1,000th career point during the Lady Tigers’ 72-25 win over Martinsville on Friday in Neches.

NECHES — Sealy Hines scored 28 points to register her 1,000th career point and Joelyn Jenkins added 19 as the Neches Lady Tigers defeated the Martinsville Lady Pirates 72-25 on Friday in a District 27-1A girls basketball game.



The Lady Tigers improve to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in district. Neches is scheduled to visit Lovelady at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Martinsville falls to 6-9 and 1-2.

Tyler 73, Mount Pleasant 36

MOUNT PLEASANT — The Tyler Lady Lions moved to 2-0 in District 15-5A girls basketball with a 73-36 win over the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers on Friday.

The Lady Lions (11-9) return to play on Tuesday, visiting Hallsville. The Lady Tigers (3-12, 0-2) are slated to visit Whitehouse on Tuesday.

Kalyse Buffin led Tyler with 23 points, followed by Bralyah Miller with 22 points. Buffin scored 12 of her points in the third quarter. Miller had two 3-pointers.

Others scoring for the Lady Lions were Bra’ Shia Miller (9 points, 1 3-pointer), Amiyah Clay (5 points, 1 3-pointer), LaTajia Hambrick (4 points), Ma’Kayla Taylor (4 points), Samora Hines (3 points, 1 3-pointer) and Amori Gee (2 points).

KK Brannon led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Others scoring for MP were Autiuana Johnson (9 points), Essence Hurndon (6 points), Melany Morales (5 points, 1 3-pointer) and Ashawnti Smith (2).

Grace Community 66, Brighter Horizons 14

Hannah Stout hit for 15 points and Kat Neal added 10 as the Grace Community Lady Cougars defeated the Garland Brighter Horizons 66-14 on Friday in a TAPPS 5A District 2 basketball game at Galen Taylor Gym in Tyler.

Others scoring for the Lady Cougars were Olivia Clark (8), Lucy Loftis (7), Kalynn Giffin (6), Harper Auringer (6), Paige Gilmore (4), Macy Loftis (4), Macie Mathis (2) and Avery Blaylock (2).

Stout had three 3-pointers with one each from Giffin and Lucy Loftis.

Longview 46, Hallsville 32

LONGVIEW — At Lobo Coliseum, the Longview Lady Lobos got a combined 22 points from Bethany Baltes (12) and Paris Simpson (10) in a 46-32 District 15-5A win over the Hallsville Ladycats.

T’asia McGee added eight for the Lady Lobos. Ryan Roberts finished with seven, Reagan Roberts six and Jailiyah Rockmore three.

Longview improves to 13-5 overall and 1-1 in district, while the Lady Bobcats fall to 4-10 and 0-1.

The Lady Lobos visit Pine Tree at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hallsville plays host to Tyler on Tuesday.

Brownsboro 63, Van 44

VAN — The Brownsboro Bearettes moved to 14-3 on the year and opened District 16-4A play with a 63-44 win over Van on Friday.

Khayla Garrett had 24 points to pace Brownsboro. Tiykeah McKenzie had 16, Khyra Garrett 15, Natalee Smith six and Michelle Lewis two.

Landry Jones finished with 15 points in the loss for Van (7-4, 1-1). She added four rebounds, an assist and a block. Others contributors for the Lady Vandals were Marisa Richardson (9,) Shelby Burns (8 points, 6 rebounds), Cassidy Stewart (5 points, 5 rebounds), Jordan Ryan (4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Lana Tschirhart (3 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal).

The Lady Vandals fall to 7-4 and 1-1.

Bullard 48, Lufkin 41

BULLARD — Carly Tucker scored 23 points to lead the Bullard Lady Panthers to a 48-41 win over the Lufkin Lady Panthers on Friday.

Bullard (14-5) returns to play on Wednesday, taking on Lipan at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Tucker had two 3-pointers.

Others scoring for Bullard were Jadyn Welch (7), Kirstin Malone (5), Avery Thomas (4), Lila Robertson (4), Lanna Kidd (3) and Brooke Minton (2).

Kidd and Welch both hit 3-pointers.

Akira Smallwood led Lufkin (5-8) with 12 points, while Mallorie Pinner added 10 points including two 3-pointers.

Also scoring were Aailyah Maxie (6), Trinity Maxie (5), Jasmine Taylor (4), Mariah Mays (2) and Aniya Williams (2).

Hawkins 71, Big Sandy 19

HAWKINS — The Hawkins Lady Hawks improved to 2-0 in District 21-2A with a 71-19 victory over Big Sandy on Friday.

Guard Taetum Smith recored her fourth consecutive double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She a near triple double with eight steals, along with four assists,

Alaya Scoggins also had a big night for the Lady Hawks adding 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Londyn Wilson scored in double digits with 13 points. Wilson added two rebounds and two assists.

Other contributors for Hawkins were Jaci Smith (9 points, 8 rebounds), Haylie Warrick (6 points, 7 rebounds), Alana Gipson (3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists); Jentri Evans (2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 rebounds); Abby McQueen (2 points, 4 rebounds); and Addy Turrentine (2 points, 2 rebounds).

Scorers for Big Sandy were Kenzie McCartney (6), Reggie Higginbotham (4), Alaysia Estes (3), Kali Yarbrough (2), Landri Wade (2), Shemaiah Johnson (1) and Journie Plunkett (1).

Big Sandy is scheduled to host White Oak at 6:15 p.m. Monday and Hawkins is slated to visit Union Grove at 6:15 p.m.

Jefferson 41, Troup 36

JEFFERSON — The Jefferson Lady Bulldogs outscored Troup 6-1 in overtime on the way to a 41-36 win in District 16-3A action on Friday.

Kristen Thomas scored 19 points and added 12 rebounds and four steals to pace Jefferson. Jordyn Davidson and Taurria Hood scored eight points apiece, Keinysa Wallace four and Ava Phillips two. Hood and Wallace both had five rebounds, and Davidson chipped in with five steals and three assists.

Zaquirah Jordan scored 12 points in the loss for Troup. Qhenja Jordan added eight, Chloie Haugeberg seven, Ashja Franklin six and Bailey Blanton three.

The Lady Tigers are 10-6 overall and 1-1 in district. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 15-6 and 1-1.

Troup won the JV game, 29-20.

Troup is scheduled to host Tatum at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Mineola 37, Harmony 21

HARMONY — Jayla Jackson knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points as the Mineola Lady Yellowjackets notched a 37-21 win over the Harmony Lady Eagles in District 13-3A action.

Evie Helpenstill had eight points in the loss for Harmony. Emma Alphin and Triniti Mauk scored five apiece, and Kenner Pylant, Mally Davidson and Kally Wade all chipped in with a free throw.

Chapel Hill 40, Carthage 35

CARTHAGE — The Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in District 17-4A with a 40-35 win over Carthage on Saturday.

R’Nya Tomlinson led Chapel Hill with nine points. Other contributors were Kiyah Miner (8 points, 4 rebounds), Kaiden Kelley (6 points, 12 rebounds) and Aryssa Cooper (5 points, 8 rebounds, 7 steals).

The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to host Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
