Martin’s Mill will look to repeat as state champion on Thursday.
Winners of the 2024 Class 2A title, the No. 1 Lady Mustangs will face No. 3 Farwell (35-3) for the Class 2A Division 2 crown at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Martin’s Mill, making its 18th appearance in the state semifinal in the last 20 years, dispatched Goldthwaite on Tuesday with a resounding 74-28 victory.
“We will enjoy this one tonight, and then regroup and plan for Farwell,” Martin’s Mill head girls basketball coach Jay Bruce said on Tuesday night. “They [Farwell] are an extremely talented team. They like to play fast tempo. We are excited for the challenge.”
Sophomore Kara Nixon — the 2024 state championship game MVP — had a team-high 16 points and 12 assists on Tuesday.
A seven-time state champion, Martin’s Mill will play in its 13th state final.
Farwell is in the state final four for the first time since 2000, when it won the Class 2A championship. Like Martin’s Mill this year, Farwell defeated Goldthwaite in the semifinals that year.
