Hawkins head boys basketball coach Ty Davis announced on social media late Wednesday night that he is leaving Hawkins.
Davis’ post read: “Still not sure I’m ready to make this post, but I know I need to. This year went by way too fast. For the third straight year, I shared a huddle with a group of young men who fearlessly bought in to the dream of making a trip to San Antonio. Even though we fell short of our goal, what they have accomplished this year is still a special season that not many teams or programs ever get to experience — 31-3 on the season (12-0 in district). They achieved their third straight district championship and back-to-back undefeated district championships. They held their opponents to an average of 38 points a game this year throughout the 34 games we played. My seniors during their three-year varsity career went 85-13 with multiple playoff victories. Thanks to my entire group of players for their effort and resilience during my time at Hawkins. I’ll never truly be able to repay them for buying into my culture and program.
“Although this will be my last year at Hawkins, I want to say thank you to all the students of Hawkins for always making the job fun and keeping me on my toes. Hawkins truly has the best students I’ve ever had the joy of getting to know. Didn’t matter what extracurricular activity they were involved in, whether it be ag, band, one act play, football, cross country, etc. We loved getting to support and getting to know every single one of you. I’ll still be a fan of all the students of Hawkins and no matter where I’m at I’ll always support and cheer them on. I look forward to making a few more memories these last couple of months. There’s nothing like being a part of a huddle having a group of young individuals believe in you and also believe in themselves. I’m sure going miss those little moments with my guys.”
Hawkins finished the season with a 31-3 record and ranked No. 10 in Class 2A, winning 19 straight games before a 61-52 loss to Marlin in the Class 2A Division I Region III semifinals on Tuesday night.
Davis, who played basketball at Brookhaven, Howard Payne and UT Tyler, was at Hawkins for three seasons. The Hawks won 85 games in that span. For his career, Davis has a record of 97-27.
