Boys Soccer Notebook: Tyler Legacy’s Axel Ruben earns weekly honor

Tyler Legacy’s Axel Ruben has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Soccer Player of the Week honors for games played Feb. 17-22.

Ruben scored all three goals in the Red Raiders’ 3-0 win over second-place Longview.



In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

Tyler Legacy backup goalkeeper David Ray had six saves in a shutout victory over second-place Longview.

Palestine’s Ismael Gonzales had three goals and three assists in two matches, including scoring the game-winning goal in a first-place showdown against Madisonville. Nathan Gonzales had three goals and one assists. Colt James anchored the back four, which allowed just one goal in two matches.

In the Lethal Soccer Regional Rankings, Tyler Legacy is No. 2 and Longview No. 20 in Class 6A Region II; Jacksonville No. 10, Mount Pleasant No. 14, Whitehouse No. 17, Lufkin No. 19 and Nacogodches No. 24 in Class 5A Region II; and Kilgore No. 1, Palestine No. 3, Pine Tree No. 5, Lindale No. 9, Sulphur Springs No. 10, Pittsburg No. 12, Chapel Hill No. 14, Mineola No. 17, Center No. 19, Hudson No. 21, Paris North Lamar No. 23 and Paris No. 25 in Class 4A Region II.
