No. 1 TWU rallies past No. 4 UT Tyler women

DENTON — A fourth quarter rally lifted No. 1 Texas Woman’s to a 71-61 win over No. 4 UT Tyler on Thursday in a Lone Star Conference regular season women’s basketball finale at Kitty Magee Arena.
The Patriots, who defeated TWU 60-50 on Nov. 23 in Tyler, end the regular season at 25-3 overall and 20-2 in the LSC, while the Pioneers improve to 28-1 and 21-1. The loss snapped UT Tyler’s 17-game winning streak and was the Patriots’ first loss in 2025. The victory gives Texas Woman’s the East Division title and the Pioneers share the overall regular season crown with Lubbock Christian.
UT Tyler will now look ahead to next week’s Lone Star Conference Tournament at the Comerica Center in Frisco. The women’s tournament will begin on Thursday with four quarterfinal matchups, before the semifinal games on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday.
Polina Latyshev scored 19 points for the Patriots on 8-for-13 shooting and added seven rebounds and four assists. Ella Bradley scored 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting while adding four made three pointers, four rebounds, and three assists.
Meagan Mendazona added 10 points on 3-for-6 shooting while adding three rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal.
The Patriots led 50-46 heading into the final period, but the Pioneers outscored UT Tyler, 25-11, in the fourth quarter.
Averee Kleinhans led TWU with 26 points with Ashley Ingram contributing 23 points and 11 rebounds.
The Patriots hit 9 of 18 from 3-point (Bradley, 4; Latyshev, 2; Mendazona, 1; Lovisa Hevinder, 1; Mileina Sablinskaite, 1) and 6 of 12 from the free throw line. The Pioneers were 4 of 15 from long distance (Kleinhans, 2; Ingram, 1; Scout Huffman, 1) and 19 of 22 from the charity stripe.

DALLAS BAPTIST 89, UT TYLER 72
DALLAS — The UT Tyler Patriots closed out their season with an 89-72 loss to No. 10 Dallas Baptist on Thursday in a Lone Star Conference men’s basketball game at the Burg Center.
UT Tyler ends its regular season at 8-20 overall and 5-17 in the LSC, while DBU (27-4) clinches its first LSC regular season title with a 19-3 mark.
One of the bright spots in the defeat was Dontrell Hewlett, who delivered a dominant performance with a game-high 31 points and 12 rebounds. Hewlett shot 9-of-19 from the field, knocked down two three-pointers, and went 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. Mareng Gatkuoth also contributed 15 points, hitting 3-of-9 from deep.
Ricky Lugan led Dallas Baptist with 30 points with Cameron Kahn and Drew Calderon adding 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Dallas Baptist takes part in the LSC Tournament beginning March 7.
