On Monday, the City of Arp unveiled the “Home of NFL Player DeMarvion Overshown” photo and sign that is next to the “Welcome to Arp” signage.
“I am humbled,” said Overshown, an all-state linebacker at Arp and All-Big 12 at the University of Texas. “I am so honored. I love the community.”
Overshown was joined by his family, including his mom, Felecia Williams, and fiancée, Alexis, a fellow Longhorn from Austin, and friends. Also on hand were his former coaches Dale Irwin and Terry Lowry, who is the Mayor of Arp, and many fans.
Lowry said, “Last summer before training camp DeMarvion gave out school supplies and backpacks to the children of Arp. He is such an outstanding young man and role model. He is always giving back to Arp and the area.”
The mayor, who is now at Carlisle High School and coached a young Overshown at Arp, then got the idea to place the sign, which is across the highway from Baker Tank Company/Altech on Highway 64. He ran it by the city council and it was unanimously approved.
Mrs. Williams was beaming with pride about her son.

“He is always willing to do what is necessary when it comes to the children,” she said.
Following the unveiling, Overshown signed autograph after autograph and posed for photos while flashing the “Hook’em Horns” sign.
Overshown added he was excited about “Schotty” (Brian Schottenheimer) taking over as head coach of the Cowboys. He said the team knows him and the offense “thinks highly of him.”
Overshown was selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. During the second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, he was carted off the field after sustaining an injury. It was revealed after the game he had a torn ACL, ending his season.
He worked his way back and made his NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2024 season.
Overshown had a sack against the Cleveland Browns in the opener and on Thanksgiving Day he had an outstanding game, scoring his first touchdown of his NFL career on an interception return against the New York Giants.
In 13 games (12 starts) for the Cowboys, he had an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, five sacks and 90 tackles.
On Dec. 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Overshown was hurt, suffering a torn ACL, MCL and PCL.
Overshown was sporting a brace on Monday and walking in crutches.
“I will be ready next season,” he said.
