Tyler Legacy Red Raiders win District 10-6A championship

Tyler Legacy wrapped up its first district title since 2021 with a 68-55 win over North Forney on Tuesday at TL Varsity Gymnasium to the win District 10-6A basketball championship.

Four Red Raiders scored in double figures.



Jayden Jones had 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks. JP Rainer went 3-for-3 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points, five assists and four steals. Josh Hall had 11 points. Ja’Corian Oes had 10 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Gage Nuckolls had 9 points, five rebounds and four assists. Zyere Ceasar had 5 points and four rebounds. KJ Cyres had 5 points.

After starting 1-2 in district, the Red Raiders won their final nine games to claim the outright league crown.

Legacy (22-12, 10-2) will open the Class 6A Division II playoffs against North Garland at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Forney.

Following the Red Raiders in the district standings were: 2, Rockwall (9-3); 3, (tie) Rockwall-Heath (8-4), Royse City (8-4); 5, (tie) Forney (3-9), Longview (3-9) and 7, North Forney (1-11).

Red Raider team members include: senior guard Johnson Rainer, senior guard Jayden Jones, senior guard Bryson Perkins, sophomore guard Kenneth Cyres, senior guard Tyler Henry, senior forward Brendan Murray, junior guard Gage Nuckolls, senior forward Joshua Hall, senior guard Ja’Corian Oes, guard senior Evan Massey, sophomore forward Zyere Ceasar and senior guard Brady Noyes.

Kyle Smith is the head coach of the Red Raiders.

Assistant coaches are Bobby Walker, Dean Nuckolls, Brandon Rougely and Brad Lowery.
