WOOD COUNTY — Multiple local officials and law enforcement agencies are showing their support to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety as a deputy and trooper are both in critical condition following an hours-long standoff on Saturday.
The suspect, who had six felony warrants, fired a semi‑automatic weapon at officers multiple times when Wood County deputies and DPS tried to execute the warrants at a home near the intersection of FM 515 and FM 2966. Both a Wood County deputy and a DPS trooper suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to a Tyler hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
After hours of efforts to get him outside, the law enforcement went in and the suspect continued to fire shots. He ultimately died at a Quitman hospital, officials said.
