Herbie K. Hobbs, 90, of Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025. Born on September 18, 1934, in Ben Wheeler, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Hobbs. Herbie is survived by his stepson Lee Phillips and wife Sharon of Flint, Texas; stepdaughter Stacey Flumerfelt and husband Ray of Prosper, Texas; and son Russ Hobbs. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Keith Phillips and wife Sarah, Sarah Phillips, Addison Flumerfelt, Kendall Flumerfelt, and Peyton Flumerfelt.
A graduate of Van High School, Herbie went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from East Texas State Teachers College. He served his country with honor as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 49th Armored Division, where he was in charge of radio operations.
Herbie built a successful career in sales with Ditch Witch of East Texas. A longtime and active member of the Tyler Modelers Club, Herbie was an accomplished RC plane pilot. He especially cherished teaching his grandson Keith the joys of flying RC planes, and the time they spent together at the field was among his most treasured.

He also had a deep love for country western dancing and traveling. Herbie loved meeting people wherever he went, and you never showed up somewhere with Herb that he did not run into someone he knew. His legacy of kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas. A celebration of Herbie’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the same location. Burial will follow immediately at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
