BULLARD — The community is mourning the death of an East Texas educator.

Casey Acker, 41, of Flint, was surrounded by family and friends when she died on Tuesday, according to her obituary.

Acker was a second-grade teacher at Bullard ISD. Prior to working at Bullard, she spent five years teaching at Cain Elementary in Whitehouse ISD. Before that, Acker taught pre-K students at West Side in Jacksonville. Acker herself was a Jacksonville ISD graduate and later received an education from Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University, according to her obituary published by Autry Funeral Home.

While at Bullard ISD, Acker earned Primary Teacher of the Year and District Elementary Teacher of the Year and TIA Master Teacher.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn with our Bullard ISD family and the community over the loss of Mrs. Casey Acker,” Bullard Education Foundation said in a Facebook post. “Mrs. Acker was a past recipient of the BEF grant program, which speaks to her care for her students, teaching experience and innovative thinking outside of standard learning in the classroom.”

The district and foundation asked for the community to keep Acker’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
