Henderson man, 19, arrested in shooting near Lake Tyler Marina

WHITEHOUSE — One person was arrested Sunday night after authorities responded to a shooting at the parking lot near the Lake Tyler Marina.

Tyler police officers were at the large parking lot near the marina for crowd control around 6:15 p.m. Smith County deputies were also called to the scene.

Around 8:15 p.m., the sheriff’s office said someone called the police to say shots had been fired. The person allegedly had an AK-style weapon. No one was injured, but a suspect was taken into custody.

Dezavion Williams, 19, of Henderson, was identified as the suspect in the shooting. He was booked in the Smith County Jail on an aggravated assault charge, which is a first-degree felony. His bond is $1 million.

The Lake Tyler Marina Resort posted a statement to Facebook, noting their ownership has no control over the park located near their business.

“We have worked very hard to have a place where families can come enjoy the lake and it breaks our heart when people refer to that park as ‘the Marina,’” the resort said.

A peaceful spot turned chaotic for regulars like Cameron Robinson, who noted it’s a reminder of how quickly things can change.

“It was a big shock factor to me to be honest,” Robinson said in an interview with CBS19.

Tyler police say they’re responding with action, ramping up patrols ahead of Memorial Day and beyond. That includes more officers stationed at the lake, in the parks, and throughout the parking lots.

Victoria Young was celebrating her daughter’s 16th birthday and people were just having fun when she saw a man with a AK-style gun.

“I was just grateful my kids were OK. It was an utter shock, complete devastation. My kids are traumatized from this point forward. Can’t come to the lake without memories. This is my daughter’s favorite place,” Young said to CBS19.
