Speaking at the NFL League Meeting in West Palm Beach, Fla. last week, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said that cornerback Trevon Diggs and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown are both expected to miss the start of the 2025 season as they recover from season-ending knee injuries.
While it is the expected timeline for each recovery, both players continue to progress well in their rehab processes.

“They have significant injuries,” Jones said. “There’s a good chance that they may not start for us when the season starts. They may not be available.”
Overshown, an Arp native, had a breakout first season in the NFL in 2024 when he accounted for 90 tackles, eight tackles for loss and a highlight reel pick-six in the team’s Thanksgiving Day win over the New York Giants. On Dec. 9, the breakout campaign was cut short when he had his right leg caught underneath a falling opposing offensive lineman which tore the ACL, MCL and LCL in his knee.
It came after his rookie year was cut off before it even got started in 2023 when he tore the ACL in his other knee in a preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The recovery for his second major knee injury is expected to carry well into the season. November is a realistic target date. Still, big steps remain in his recovery before a firm timeline can be put in place.
Diggs is also rehabbing a major knee injury for the second offseason in a row. After tearing his ACL early in the 2023 season and missing 16 games, his 2024 season was cut short when further imaging on knee soreness he was experiencing led to the discovery of a cartilage issue in his previously injured knee. He underwent a chondral tissue graft surgery on Jan. 23 after the swelling had cleared.
The recovery for Diggs is not expected to carry into the season as far as Overshown’s could, but the realistic expectation is that he will be put on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to begin the season, leaving him off the roster for at least the first four games.
