No. 1 Patriots sweep St. Edward’s

No. 1 UT Tyler rolled to a doubleheader sweep of St. Edward’s on Monday in a Lone Star Conference softball matchup at Diane Daniels Field in Austin.

The Patriots won 17-1 (6 innings) and 7-0.

UT Tyler improved to 34-3 overall and 25-3 in LSC play. The Hilltoppers fell to 21-17 and 15-13.

The Patriots complete a 10-game road swing by traveling to Denton on Friday to face Texas Woman’s University (4 and 6 p.m.). UT Tyler returns to their home diamond on Sunday against TWU (1 and 3 p.m.) at Irwin Field.

GAME ONE



Kaylee Davis (9-0) and Kaylee Harris combined on a three-hitter.

Davis pitched four innings, allowing one hit and no runs with no walks and one strikeout. Harris threw the final inning, giving up two hits and one run.

The Patriots hit four homers — JT Smith (grand slam), Sam Schott (2-run homer), Bailey Krolczyk (solo) and Jordyn De Los Santos (solo).

Bailey added a double along with Taryn Barney. Mia Campos hit a triple.

Bailey had three hits and two RBIs with De Los Santos contributing two hits and three RBIs.

Adding hits were Ka’Lyn Watson, Keona Wells, Abbie Behe and Angelique Rangel. Also knocking in runs were Campos (3), Watson (2), Julissa Vasque (1), Barney (1) and Behe (1).

Megan Morris and Ciana Rodriguez had doubles for the Hilltoppers.

GAME TWO

Cerea Blanchard (13-3) and Primrose Aholelei both pitched for UT Tyler, allowing three hits.

Blanchard hurled 5.1 innings (3 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts), followed by Aholelei (1.2 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts).

Campos hit a two-run homer and a single with a double from Schott. Smith, Watson and Barney added singles.

RBIs were from Campos (2), Schott (2), Smith (1), Sam Garcia (1) and De Los Santos (1).
