On Wednesday, the Tyler City Council approved a contract with MHS Planning & Design for $67,500 to provide comprehensive design services for the development of Stewart Park. The project will include installing new playground equipment, a walking trail, pavilions, a restroom and educational features.
MHS Planning & Design will lead the design process from start to finish, handling everything from site surveys to detailed plans for parks, utilities and overall site layout. Their work will also include securing necessary permits, identifying potential utility conflicts, coordinating with utility companies and agencies, and ensuring the project meets environmental regulations.
The Stewart Park property was originally donated to the City of Tyler in October 2012 by local philanthropists and long-time community residents Gladys and T.B. Stewart. The planned improvements will enhance the park’s amenities while preserving its historical significance.
Stewart Park will be the first park added to the City of Tyler’s Park System in decades. Construction on the park will begin once the trailhead for the Legacy Trail extension, which will start at Stewart Park, is complete.
MHS Planning & Design will ensure the project complies with all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and codes. The development will be funded through the Capital Parks Improvement Fund.
