The No. 5 UT Tyler baseball Patriots began their series against Cameron with a bang as they took down the Aggies 22-3 in a run-rule win on Friday at Irwin Field.

UT Tyler will now look ahead to Saturday’s doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. It will also double as Military Appreciation Day at the ballpark.

The Patriots scored a run in all six innings that they batted in, and loaded the bases in every single inning in a complete effort from the entire lineup on Friday evening. Every single Patriots hitter that recorded a plate appearance reached base.

The Patriots kicked off the game with a dominant Rawley Hector start, as he pitched the first four innings while giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out four on his way to the win. He got some big help from the defense, getting a caught stealing in the first and a huge outfield assist from Ryan Walker in the third inning to keep the scoreless effort rolling.

The offense wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring five runs in the first inning. Kaston Mason delivered the first two with an RBI single, and both Blake LaBuda and Mason Hammonds drove home runs on RBI singles of their own while Ryan Walker brought a runner home with a walk.

The Patriots would plate a pair in the second via a groundout and a wild pitch before another big breakout inning in the third. Justin Williams led off the inning with a solo home run to left center, and he was upped by Brock Bearden as he delivered a monster grand slam down the left field line to make it 12-0.

Hammonds would drive home another run in the third with an RBI groundout, and the Patriots led 13-0 after just three innings. Bearden would continue his hot day in the fourth, barreling a double to left center that drove home two more before scoring on a wild pitch himself. Williams would come up big with a two RBI single late in the inning, giving the Patriots an 18-0 lead after four.

A sacrifice fly got the Aggies on the board in the fifth, but the Patriots covered it up with three more runs in the home half as the carousel kept turning for the Patriots offense.

Two more runs crossed for the Aggies in the sixth, and Bearden would add his seventh RBI of the day with a hit by pitch in the bottom half to close out the scoring at 22-3.

Silas Cowgill and Noah Lindt would throw the final three innings of the day, with Cowgill allowing three hits and striking out three in his two innings of work. Lindt would work the seventh, striking out the side to end the contest.

Seven different Patriots recorded an RBI in a big day for the offense, led by Brock Bearden who went 2-for-3 with seven RBI, three runs, and two walks.

Justin Williams and Ryan Walker each added three RBI, and five different Patriots would record two hits in the contest.

In total the Patriots drew 12 walks and were hit by six pitches. Ryan Walker drew three walks and a hit by pitch, and Tanner Hornback was hit by a pair of pitches.
