Softball: After sweeping Dustdevils, No. 1 Patriots host A&M-Kingsville Sunday

The No. 1 UT Tyler softball team will tangle with Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Sunday doubleheader at Irwin Field.

Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m. 

The Patriots (25-2, 16-2 Lone Star Conference) are coming off a sweep of Texas A&M International on Friday in Tyler, winning 8-0 (6 innings) and 5-3.

GAME 1

Primrose Aholelei tossed a five-hit shutout and JT Smith and Jordyn De Los Santos hit homers as the Patriots took the 8-0 win in six-innings.



Aholelei (12-0) struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Smith had a two-run homer in the first inning. She added a single and a sacrifice fly and three RBIs.

Other extra base hits by the Patriots were from Angelique Rangel (triple), Ka’Lyn Watson (double) and Alaunah Amarez (double).

Rangel led UT Tyler with three hits with two apiece from Smith and Watson. Sam Schott had a single.

Adding RBIs were Bailey Krolczyk, De Los Santos and Rangel.

Kristin Maldonado had two hits for the Dustdevils.

GAME 2

In the second game, the Patriots broke out to a 5-0 lead and held on for the 5-3 victory.

Schott hit a three-run homer to center field tp lead UT Tyler. Smith had two hits with singles from Krolczyk, Watson and Del Los Santos. Smith and Watson had an RBI apiece.

Cera Blanchard (9-2) got the win in the circle, going 5.2 innings (3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts). Kaylee Davis got her third save of the season by going 1.1 innings (0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts).

Victoria Gonzalez had a single and three RBIs to pace Texas A&M International. Queenandra Dunn and Damaris Saldivar added singles.

The Dustdevils are 14-15 overall and 6-10 in the Lone Star Conference.
