TJC police investigates reported assault at campus library

The Tyler Junior College (TJC) Police Department is investigating a reported incident that occurred in the TJC Library on March 11.



A student came forward Thursday to report that a man approached him while he was in the library’s quiet room, according to the college’s police chief. The two went into the quiet room to talk, and at one point during the conversation, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife and held it to the student’s neck, saying, “we are not finished talking.”

The student and the suspect continued their conversation before the student left.

The suspect, described as a 6-foot-1 tall black male in his mid-to-late 20s with a stocky build, afro, and a possible flower tattoo on his neck, was wearing gray sweatpants and an unknown colored shirt.

The suspect has not been apprehended and is not in custody as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The student reported the incident after he believed he saw the suspect on campus around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Police officers searched the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.
