Area girls set to compete at state powerlifting meet in Edinburg

Several area powerlifters are competing in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet that began Wednesday and will continue through Saturday at Edinburg’s Bert Ogden Arena.
Tyler High’s Asya Denmark will compete in the 5A meet on Saturday. She had a total of 860 in the 242-pound class at regionals.
Also competing in Saturday’s 5A state meet field are Whitehouse’s Emma Thomas (905 total in 198-pound class) and Jacksonville’s Shayla Ramirez (785 total in 132-pound class).
Lindale and Chapel Hill will both be well represented in the Class 4A Big Division.
Competing for Lindale are Patience Beal (485 total in 97-pound class), Addison Frazier (1,015 total in 132-pound class), Emalee Mckeever (780 total in 132-pound class), Serenity Fuller (855 total in 148-pound class), Tianna Cooper (785 total in 148-pound class), Sophia Galysh (955 total in 165-pound class), Mia Hayes (880 total in 165-pound class), Regan Wooten (1,020 total in 181-pound class) and Crystal Bastida (915 total in 220-pound class). Seniors Frazier and Wooten are both ranked in the top two in the state in their classes.
Competing for Chapel Hill are Myleigh Bradshaw (560 total in 97-pound class), Ana Aguirre (555 total in 114-pound class) and Raniyah Suell (980 total in 220-pound class).
Henderson’s Jakiya Lacy will compete in the Class 4A Big Division, which begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday, in the 242-pound weight class. She produced a 545 total at regionals.
The 4A Small Division that begins at 8 a.m. on Friday. Competing are Brownsboro’s Savannah Stroud (560 total in 97-pound class), Rusk’s Zoie Goff (655 total in 132-pound class), Rusk’s Claire Tipton (1,065 total in 148-pound class), Brownsboro’s Lilly Haldeman (905 total in 165-pound class), Bullard’s Aalyah Ayers (930 total in 198-pound class), Paolina Cazares (650 total in 242-pound class) and Rusk’s Codi Miller (750-pound class in 242-plus class).
The 3A Small Division will be full of East Texans when that competition begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Arp’s lineup will include Presley Johnson in the 105-pound weight class after her 670 total regional score, Lillie Haskins in the 132-pound weight class after her 680 total regional score, Isabella Reagh in the 148-pound weight class after her 805 total regional score, and both Aquira Hines (915 total regional score) and Lakayla Dewberry (875 total regional result) in the 198-pound weight class.
Troup’s team will feature Wren Goode in the 114-pound weight class after her 575 total regional score, Yarahi Yanez in the 148-pound weight class after her 800 total regional score, Violet Eason in the 165-pound weight class after her 865 regional score, and Tayla Davis in the 198-pound weight class after her 965 total regional score.
Also competing are Quitman’s Marcee Cooper (535 total in 97-pound class), Elkhart’s Milly Orzechowski (630 total in 105-pound class), Elkhart’s Chyanne Cannon (710 total in 132-pound class), Elkhart’s Hannah Foster (860 total in 165-pound class) and Elkhart’s Addison Boren (995 total in 181-pound class).
Sabine will be competing during the 1:30 p.m. 3A Big Division competition on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals’ soaring attack will be headlined by Ava Heimer in the 97-pound weight class after her 550 total regional score and Landry Griffith in the 132-pound weight class after her 805 total regional score.
Also competing are Rains’ Scarlett Harris (660 total in 105-pound class), Winnsboro’s Isabel Gonzalez (635-pound class in 105-pound class), Winnsboro’s Elleorah Foster (740 total in 114-pound class), Mineola’s Ellie Littlefield (690 total in 114-pound class), Winnsboro’s Tea McCoy (785 total in 123-pound class), Mineola’s Sarah Smith (715 total in 123-pound class), Winnsboro’s Laura Barth (815 total in 132-pound class), Winnsboro’s Avery Cole (775 total in 132-pound class), Winnsboro’s Kyilee McMullen (1,045 total in 148-pound class), Winnsboro’s Valery Soto (805 total in 148-pound class), Sofia Feliciano (800 total in 148-pound class), Malakoff’s Dailynn Jackson (820 total in 165-pound class), Palestine Westwood’s Brayci Barron (820 total in 165-pound class), Winnsboro’s Gabby Zaleski (830 total in 198-pound class), Palestine Westwood’s Ariana Gonzales (825 total in 198-pound class), Palestine Westwood’s Amani Tinnion (1,010 total in 220-pound class), Mineola’s Zion Olajide (995 total in 220-pound class), Mineola’s Julieann Coats (965 total in 220-pound class), Palestine Westwood’s Cora Osei-Adjei (1,170 total in 242-plus class) and Malakoff’s Whitley Yard (780 total in 242-plus class).
Competing in Class 2A are Frankston’s Jenna Gould (800 total in 123-pound class), Overton’s Mason Fenter (685 total in 132-pound class), Overton’s Kasha Williams (840 total in 181-pound class) and Hawkins’ Makayla Ard (855 total in 242-plus class).
Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. Unequipped Division will also feature multiple area lifters. Union Grove will send Jordyn Bishop to the 97-pound weight class after her 410 total regional score. Also competing are Brownsboro’s Brooklyn Essary (465 total in 105-pound class), Jacksonville’s Melody Scruggs (510 total in 114-pound class), Cayuga’s Ella Partin (660 total in 148-pound class), Bullard’s Anna Weaver (670 total in 181-pound class), Brownsboro’s Avery Blackmon (720 total in 220-pound class), Brownsboro’s Lucy Adair (645 total in 242-pound class).
