Boys Soccer Notebook: Brook Hill’s Javier Gavito takes weekly honor

Brook Hill’s Javier Gavito earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Soccer Player of the Week honors for games played March 3-8.
Gavito scored three total goals in the semifinals and the finals to help the Guard win their second straight state championship as Brook Hill defeated Brownsville St. Joseph Academy 4-0 in the TAPPS Division II title game on Friday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock.
Gavito plays center back and is responsible for marking the other team’s best player. The Guard allowed no goals in the playoffs.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Palestine junior Ismael Gonzalez had eight goals and two assists. Junior Seby Ledesma had two goals and six assists. Junior Colt James was the defensive anchor, and he had a goal and an assist.
