Brook Hill advances to state final

The Brook Hill Guard won the TAPPS Division II Boys Winter Soccer state championship March 7 in Round Rock. The Guard (19-1-1) defeated Brownsville St. Joseph Academy 4-0 to capture their second consecutive championship. Brook Hill team members include: senior goalkeeper Christian Pous, sophomore forward Jack Barber, senior midfielder Asa Kerr, junior defender Javier Gavito, senior defender Johnmarc Orrico, senior defender Abraham Fajembola, senior forward Enrico Gilberti, sophomore midfielder Jemezu Tesie, sophomore forward Andres Gavito, junior midfielder Joash Kondru, sophomore midfielder Solomon Zapolskyy, junior midfielder Jose Gonzalez, senior defender Rodrigo Perez, senior midfielder Kamsi Amaonwu, junior midfielder Zack Hemple, freshman defender Emi Kayode, freshman midfielder Renato Faria, junior defender Blake Whitten, senior midfielder Mudi Ogufere, senior defender Carlos Afre, sophomore midfielder Stetson Cox, senior defender Joel Kondru and student assistant Ronny Lindross. David Collins is the head coach. Assistants are Austin Reed and Jullia Trabach. The trainer is Laurie Nafe.

The Brook Hill Guard will get a chance to defend their state soccer championship.

The Guard scored a 3-0 victory over Grapevine Faith Christian in a TAPPS Division II state tournament semifinal on Thursday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock.



Brook Hill (17-1-1) will face Brownsville St. Joseph Academy (10-4) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Round Rock. St. Joseph Academy defeated San Antonio Christian 1-0 in the other semifinal.

Grapevine Faith ends its season at 16-5-1.

“The defense was incredible today and has really been stellar all year, in our 19 games we have 16 shutouts,” Brook Hill Coach David Collins said. “The job that Javi Gavito and Johnmarc Orrico did today was a big part of why we are on to the state finals tomorrow.”

Collins added goalkeeper Christian Pous “has been outstanding all year.”

Gavito scored two goals to pace the Guard. Brook Hill also earned another score off an own goal by the Lions.

Jose Gonzalez had an assist with Pous making six saves.
