Thousands were without power in Smith County after a severe thunderstorm passed through the area Tuesday morning.

Although sunshine returned after the morning storm, thousands more homes lost power due to heavy winds that continued through the afternoon.

At Bullard ISD, students were released early due to persistent power outages. Arp ISD reported it was without power Tuesday morning; it later returned and school continued as normal.

Trees were reported blocking roadways throughout the county. Crews were also working to secure power lines, including a live wire that was across Rice Road on Tuesday morning.



The Smith County Road and Bridge Department reported a partial washout of County Road 165, also known as Henry Moore Road, southwest of Tyler.

Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Moore reported that a couple of mobile homes in The Grove at Brook Hollow, located off Rhones Quarter Road, had trees that fell through them.
