Lions score win over Westwood

The Lions had four consecutive singles to tie the game and Adrian Alvarado scored the winning run on a passed ball as Tyler High scored a 5-4 win over the Palestine Westwood Panthers on Friday in the Eli Sanchez Memorial Baseball Tournament at Mike Carter Field.
Tyler captured its second victory of the season to go to 2-6.
Saturday’s schedule includes: Nevada Community vs. Hughes Springs, 9 a.m.; Sulphur Springs vs. Hughes Springs, 11 a.m.; West Rusk vs. Brownsboro, 1 p.m.; Brownsboro vs. Tyler, 3 p.m.; West Rusk vs. Tyler, 5 p.m.
The Lions took a 3-0 lead in the first before Westwood rallied for three runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth for a 4-3 lead. Tyler then won the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Alvarado pitched all six innings, allowing six innings with six hits, four runs (1 earned) with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Felipe Velazquez had a triple for the Lions with Juan Hiuguera adding a double.
Malachi Deleon had three hits and scored two runs with two hits apiece from Alvarado (2 runs) and Da’Markous Pierce. Kaleb Hall had a single and a run scored, while Aden Portley had a single and an RBI.
Preston Westwood led the Panthers with a triple and double with an RBI. Brayden had a triple and scored a run, while Avery Muniz hit a triple, plus scoring a run and knocking in a run.
Also, Myron Melton and Terrel Walser each had singles with Walser scoring a run with an RBI.
