Tyler Legacy goes 1-1 to open tournament

Tyler Legacy split a pair of games on the opening day of the Peltier Chevrolet Rose City Softball Classic.
The Lady Raiders opened the day with an 18-2 win over Killeen.
Legacy scored five runs in the first inning, eight in the second inning and five in the third inning. Killeen scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning before the game ended.
ReNaa Hicks led off the game with a single and used a stolen base, passed ball and wild pitch to come around and score the first run. That was the only hit of the opening inning for the Lady Raiders on the way to a 5-0 lead.
Legacy overcame a one-out error in the bottom of the first inning to keep Killeen scoreless.
The Lady Raiders then scored eight runs in the second inning. Hicks led off the inning with a single and came all the way around to score. She also capped the scoring in the inning, following an RBI single by Vivian Williams with a three-run inside-the-park home run.
Shidaa Ates had an RBI single in the third inning, and Hicks added an RBI double.
Hicks was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, falling a triple shy of the cycle. Williams, Ates and Hadison Maxey all had a hit.
Aubrie Kirk struck out a batter in a scoreless first inning. Ruby Byers allowed two runs — one earned — on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings.
In the second game, Legacy lost to Brownsboro 6-2.
Legacy got a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Brownsboro scored three runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to take the win.
Maxey had a triple and an RBI. Hicks and Krisney Austin each added a hit.
Kirk allowed six runs — two earned — on six hits with two walks in four innings.
Arabella Lowrance and Cheyenne Cowart led Brownsboro with two hits each.
The other Pool C result on Thursday was Brownsboro 10, Killeen 3.
Van won Pool A, defeating Troup 4-0 and Mount Pleasant 7-1. Mount Pleasant took a 5-4 win over Troup. Jailey Potter had three hits with a double against Troup, and Maylan Hale had two hits. Potter struck out eight in the four-hit shutout.
North Lamar won Pool B, defeating Scurry-Rosser 6-4 and Malakoff 7-0. Malakoff took a 5-4 win over Scurry-Rosser.
Mildred won Pool D, defeating Tyler 21-0 and Mabank 15-0. Mabank took a 19-2 win over Tyler.
Alba-Golden won Pool E, defeating Jacksonville 7-3 and Kerens 7-0. Kerens took a 5-1 win over Jacksonville.
Mabank will face Alba-Golden at 9 a.m. Friday at Tyler Legacy in the Gold Bracket. The winner will face Tyler Legacy at 3 p.m.
Kerens will face Van at 10:30 a.m. The winner will meet Brownsboro at 1:30 p.m. Mildred will play Malakoff at noon. Mount Pleasant will face North Lamar at 3 p.m. at Tyler High.
Consolation games for Friday at Tyler High are Tyler vs. Killeen, 9 a.m.; Troup vs. Jacksonville, 10:30 a.m.; Tyler vs. Troup, noon; and Killeen vs. Jacksonville, 1:30 p.m.
