Women interested in competing in the Ms. Texas Senior Classic Pageant are invited to a Meet and Greet event on March 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sylvania Church, 2801 South Southeast Loop 323 in Tyler.

The “Come and Go” event will provide prospective contestants with an opportunity to learn more about the pageant, meet the state director, and ask questions. Peggy Wagner, the state director from Plano, will be available to speak with both prospective and former contestants. Reigning queen Susie Stevenson, co-director Brenda Hammond, and assistant director Jo Anne McMeans will also be in attendance.

The Ms. Texas Senior Classic Pageant features four competition categories: Philosophy of Life, Judges’ Interviews, Modeling, and Talent. Contestants receive free modeling lessons from Wagner, a professional choreographer.

“Everyone has a talent, whether it be singing, dancing, playing an instrument, displaying some art or handiwork, or reading a poem,” Wagner said.

In addition to the competition, contestants will have opportunities to connect throughout the year, including an annual themed tea held in their honor.

Women across Texas who are 60 years or ‘better’ and have been residents of the state for at least six months are eligible to compete. Applications will be available at the Meet and Greet, and light refreshments will be served.

The Ms. Texas Senior Classic Pageant will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Tyler, located on 5701 S. Broadway Avenue. Those unable to attend the Meet and Greet may still apply by contacting Wagner at 974-424-4376 or McMeans at 903-780-0349 or 903-566-8888.
