Saundra enjoyed her family, gardening, nature and needlepoint. She beamed with pride each spring as having maintained the most meticulous garden with an abundant variety of beautiful plants with the backdrop of her manicured lawn. Nestled in amongst the garden were her many bird feeders sustaining the multiple varieties of native birds and other animals. She also shared a passion for needlepoint and needlework with hundreds of people across the greater East Texas area. She began sharing her love for needlepoint through the First Baptist Church Sew Days in the late 1970’s with an introductory class for the community. Her teaching grew into a full-time passion when she worked at A World in Stitches starting in 1983 teaching and needlepointing for more than 32 years, ending in 2015. She continued her needlework privately up until the time of her passing. Her work was chosen in 1997 to be displayed in the White House for President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton. She then had a second opportunity to showcase Christmas stockings for President George Bush and First Lady Laura Bush which were displayed at Camp David.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy in Tyler.
If desired, memorials may be made in her honor to First Baptist Church Generation to Generation Fund 301 W. Ferguson St., Tyler, TX 75702 (www.fbctyler.org).
