Rawly Hinch poured in 20 points as Van stunned No. 25 Chapel Hill with a 68-47 decision in the opening round of the Class 4A Division II bi-district basketball playoffs Tuesday night at UT Tyler’s Herrington Patriot Center.



Hinch made six threes — four in the second half.

Caden Rowe had 17 points for the Vandals.

The score was tied at 17 after the first quarter. Van led 33-26 at halftime and 49-31 after three quarters.

Other scorers for Van (21-12) were Kamron Jones 11; Weston Proctor 4; Easton Hinch 3; Kale Carter 3; Jett Stanfield 3; Andrew Flodder 3; Austin Moffatt 2; Cash Walker 2; and Ryder Savage 2.

Isiah Mayfield led Chapel Hill (29-6) with 11 points. Other scorers were Malik Gee 9; Jordyn Bradshaw 7; Jorden Ford 7; Marquis Collins 5; Demetrius Brisbon 4; Trevor Brooks 2; and Anthony Smith 2.

Van advances to face Paris North Lamar in area. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Sulphur Springs High School.

North Lamar defeated Caddo Mills, 63-51, in bi-district.
