Softball Notebook: Bullard’s Brooklyn Brannen, Kirstin Malone take weekly honors

Bullard’s Brooklyn Brannen and Kirstin Malone have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Softball Player of the Week honors for games played Feb. 10-15.
Brannen, a junior, is the Pitcher of the week. She went 3-0, striking out 27 batters and posting a 0.76 ERA in 18.1 innings as Bullard went 5-0 in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in College Station and 6-0 overall.
Malone, a junior, is the Hitter of the week. She went to the plate 23 times, going 9-for-17 (.529) with a three home runs, a double, six RBIs, 10 runs, six walks and going a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen bases.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
PITCHING
Brook Hill’s Karmen Miller faced 20 batters, allowing one earned run with 11 strikeouts.
HITTING
Tyler Legacy’s Aubrie Kirk went 3-for-7 (.429) with a home run in her first at-bat, two doubles and five RBIs. ReNaa Hicks went 7-for-12 (.583) with three RBIs, seven runs and seven stolen bases.
Whitehouse’s Analee Becerra went 6-for-14 (.428) with three home runs, 10 RBIs and seven runs.
Brook Hill’s Blair Brister went 4-for-4 (1.000) with two doubles and two triples.
Grand Saline’s Gracie Jo Currey hit .778 with a triple, two doubles, five RBIs and three runs. Freshman Madi Fugate hit .615 with a triple, two RBIs, five runs and four stolen bases. Alissa Fugate hit .462 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs. Abbigail Sustaita hit .417 with four RBis, two doubles and one run.
Big Sandy’s Journie Plunkett went 3-for-6 (.500) with a home run, a double, five RBIs and five runs.
West Rusk’s Aylin Rocha had three doubles, two singles, three walks, 10 RBIs and six runs. Dustyn Reddyn had a bases-clearing triple, a base-clearing double, 12 RBIs, five walks and nine runs.
