In 2024, Stevenson was part of the District 6-4A Staff of the Year.

“We saw an impressive number of 87 high-quality applicants and then had a competitive interview process,” Jacksonville superintendent Brad Stewart said. “As a committee, we felt Montey Stevenson rose to the top and demonstrated the qualities we believe make him a perfect fit for JISD and our athletic programs. We are excited to welcome him, his wife and their daughter to our district and community.”

Stevenson emphasizes building a positive culture as the key to success in any athletic program.

“Culture drives our expectations and beliefs, which shape behavior and habits,” Stevenson said. “My philosophy of coaching is about protecting, changing and saving young people. This is done by creating an atmosphere of pride, tradition and excitement. I strive to teach young people the importance of character, confidence, knowledge, goal setting, attitude, accountability and how these factors apply to sports and life.”

A graduate of the University of North Texas, Stevenson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the Black Coaches Association.

Stevenson played defensive tackle at North Texas before stints with the New Orleans VooDoo in the Arena Football League and the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
