Softball: Legacy, Brownsboro, Brook Hill win openers

NACOGDOCHES — Aubrie Kirk threw a one-hit shutout as Tyler Legacy opened the softball season with a 10-0 win over Nacogdoches in five innings.

Kirk struck out five batters with no walks.



ReNaa Hicks led Legacy with three hits and two RBIs. Hadison Maxey, Haley Tucker and Aubrey Bailey all had two hits. Maxey drove in two runs. Tucker had a triple. Gracie Albritton added a double.

Legacy (1-0) will face Lebanon Trail and Frisco Centennial on Thursday in the Frisco Tournament.

BROWNSBORO 7, ELKHART 4

ELKHART — Cheyenne Cowart made an impact at the plate and in the pitching circle to lead Brownsboro to a 7-4 win over Elkhart in the season opener.

Cowart went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Pitching, Cowart allowed four runs on eight this with four strikeouts and four walks in seven innings to pick up the win.

Aubree McKinney had two hits with a double and two RBIs. Lilly Haldeman, Summer Ngyuen and Emma Cutright all had a hit for the Bearettes.

BROOK HILL 12, LAPOYNOR 1

BULLARD — Blair Brister went 4-for-4 with two triples, two doubles and three RBIs to lead Brook Hill to a 12-1 win over LaPoynor.

Menah Harley and Allyson Mathews each had two hits. Harley had three RBIs, and Mathews and Karmen Miller each drove in two runs. Harley homered, and Mathews had a double.

Miller allowed one run on no hits with 11 strikeouts and five walks in five innings for the Guard.
